On Friday, Cambridge MP Bryan May, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, was proud to announce a grant of $23,500 for innovative programming at Idea Exchange.
This investment is being made through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
This funding will be used at Idea Exchange to create a new innovative program, connecting Idea Exchange to three other community organizations (Stirling Heights Long Term Care, Chartwell Queen’s Square Retirement Residence and the Ontario Christian Gleaners) to collect, record, and share the experiences of seniors in the Cambridge community.
The New Horizons for Seniors Program provides grants for community organizations which help seniors give back to their community and improves community connectedness for seniors.
The Government of Canada is providing approximately $35 million in NHSP funding for close to 1,850 community-based projects approved through the 2016-2017 NHSP.
Since 2004, the NHSP has funded close to 19,700 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada, with a total Government of Canada investment of approximately $417 million.
Through the many community-based projects we support each year, the Government of Canada helps seniors across Canada share their knowledge, skills and lived experiences in unique ways. NHSP projects reflect our ongoing commitment to ensure that seniors from coast to coast can be active and prosperous members of their communities. The Honourable Jean-Yves DuclosMinister of Families, Children and Social Development Canada
We want to make sure seniors can remain engaged and share their experiences with the community. This project will have wide ranging benefits that empower the participants, collaborators, and viewers.Bryan MayMember of Parliament for Cambridge
The main objectives of this project are to encourage seniors to share their stories and experiences, to inspire new relationships, and ultimately, to produce an outstanding documentary film that is a long-lasting legacy of senior voices in our community. It is a tremendously inspiring, meaningful, and compelling project.Aidan WareGallery Director, Idea Exchange
